DocProject does not support the latest release of Sandcastle yet.

This version of DocProject is only compatible with the Sandcastle May 2008 Release

Important

This release provides full support for both Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 from a single installer.
This will most likely be the final Release Candidate for DocProject 1.x. The next release will be the first production release of DocProject; therefore, bug reports and feedback on this release is especially crucial.
The source code is no longer packaged with the installer - it is available for download in the Source Code area of this website.
There were several breaking changes made to this release and also some new features that will help to make the transition from older DocProject versions easier.

Notable Changes

DocProjects and DocSites created by a previous release are no longer compatible. Use the new Import Topics and Settings step in the New Project Wizard to upgrade existing DocProjects and DocSites.
The DocProjectBuildPath environment variable has been deprecated and replaced by DocProjectPath, which is the path to DocProject's root installation folder - not the bin subfolder. DocProjectBuildPath is still created by the installer in this release, but it won't be in subsequent releases.
Keys in the Help\Settings\versions.xml file (used by the Version management dialog) that were generated using full source paths are no longer valid and should be removed from the file.

Presentation Patch
Download and apply the latest patch from Sandcastle Styles before using DocProject.

This patch provides bug fixes for common issues with Sandcastle's presentation styles and also adds additional features that are supported by DocProject.

Windows 2000 Users
It has been reported that the DocProject installer is incompatible with Windows 2000. If you are using Windows 2000 then you must extract the installer files on Windows XP or higher, copy the files to the Windows 2000 machine and then run Setup.exe. To extract the files run DocProject-####RC.exe /c in a command window.

One very simple thing I tried to do, and couldn’t, was simply change the feedback email address – so what else isn’t easily customizable? Personally I found the Sandcastle Help File Builder much easier to use.

One very simple thing I tried to do, and couldn’t, was simply change the feedback email address – so what else isn’t easily customizable? The run-times are actually named DaveSexton, so maybe the real purpose to drum up consulting business and not as much on creating an easy to use product?

CREATED RELEASE: ResolveExternalLinksComponent 1.0 (Jun 09, 2008)

This release consists of one assembly that defines a custom Sandcastle build component named, *ResolveExternalLinksComponent*, which allows you to configure ID-to-URL mappings so that you can specify hyperlinks in your code comments and MAML topics using IDs instead of actual URLs.

DocToMaml is a tool that converts HTML and XHTML help files to [Microsoft Assistance Markup Language|Sandcastle Help#MAML] (MAML) in a batch process.

MAML help files are used by [DocProject|Home] and [url:Sandcastle|http://codeplex.com/Sandcastle] to build user documentation in various presentation styles.

This beta release provides a project-based graphical user interface (GUI) for adding inputs and defining conversion rules to quickly and easily convert HTML files into MAML. Future releases will provide more flexibility for defining rules, but the beta can still be used to greatly decrease the amount of effort that would be required to convert large numbers of HTML files into MAML, compared to doing it manually.

The following files are available for download.

*DocToMaml 1.0 Beta (ZIP)*
This ZIP file contains the application and dependencies. Installation is not required.

* *DocToMaml.exe*: The DocToMaml application.
** The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or [url:3.5|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&DisplayLang=en] is required.
* *DocToMaml.exe.config*: Application configuration file.
* *DaveSexton.Controls.HtmlEditor.dll*: Provides HTML to XML conversion functionality and the WYSIWYG HTML editor that is used on the *Source* tab.
** This assembly is a required dependency of the application.
*Compiled Help File (DocToMaml Help.chm)*
DocToMaml will look for the compiled help file (_DocToMaml Help.chm_) in the same directory as the program when you press *F1* or select any of the *Help* menu items, although it is not required. If the help file doesn't exist then the program will prompt you to browse for it.

To get started using DocToMaml, follow these steps.
# Download the *DocToMaml 1.0 Beta (ZIP)* file and extract its contents to a folder on your local computer. The exact location doesn't matter, although _{"[My Documents]\DocToMaml"}_ is recommended.
# Optionally, download *Compiled Help File (DocToMaml Help.chm)* and place it in the folder with the executable.
# Optionally, create the default project folder on your computer: _{"[My Documents]\DocToMaml\Projects"}_
# Run the application.
## To start the program in UI mode, double-click *DocToMaml.exe*.
### *Note*: If you haven't used this program before then you must start in UI mode first since an existing project file is required for the command-line mode.
### If you've downloaded the compiled help file, press *F1* and read the _Getting Started_ topic for further guidance.
## To start the program in command-line mode, specify the {{-convert}} switch and the full path to a DocToMaml project file, in quotes.
### *Warning:* If the project file does not specify an output folder then all of the MAML topics are saved to the current directory. To set an output folder in the project, run at least one batch conversion in the UI and save the changes to the project.
